I personal each the Impact Mini and its far more pricey, more effectively-endowed cousin, the MiniVee. I use the MiniVee in my residence theater system, and the Impact Mini provides low-finish reinforcement to my high-end Personal sound program consisting of the NuForce Icon-1 amp and S-1 speakers.
The MiniVee and the Effect Mini are about the same size externally, but the MiniVee packs a bigger 8″ driver with a longer ‘excursion’ and a 1000W amp into its .7-cubic-foot enclosure. Let me begin out by saying that if you’ve got the income, spring for the MiniVee — you’ll get tighter, firmer, and far more musical bass, and a bit far more of it. That’ll seem like an understatement once the MiniVee socks you in the gut for the initial time. The two subs are on absolutely various levels the MiniVee is almost certainly twice the sub that the Effect Mini is (which suits their application in my household just fine).
That mentioned, if you’re restricted both in budget and in the size of the subwoofer that you (or your significant other) are prepared to tolerate, the Velodyne Effect Mini deserves your consideration. It is got a 6.5″-diameter woofer driver with an aluminum cone and a lengthy linear excursion (or ‘throw’) that’s borrowed from the more high-priced Velodyne MicroVee (smaller brother to the MiniVee) and coupled via a .7-cubic-foot enclosure to a down-firing 8″ passive radiator. (A passive radiator serves a function related to a reflex port, but its diaphragm can be weighted to grant deeper bass reproduction from small enclosures.)
1 spot where you will make some meaningful sacrifices is in the energy department. The Influence Mini is the most potent sub in the Impact series at 180W RMS, 300 peak, and it can nevertheless sound astonishingly loud, but it begins to sound strained at high output as the amplifier and woofer both run out of juice. Via it all, the amp does not get dangerously hot, even though it does turn into warm, and the aluminum cone of the active driver may also turn into warm as it dissipates the heat from the 2″ voice coil — which is substantial for a driver its size.
You’ll be impressed with the way this sub can fill bedroom-sized spaces — it brought a YouTube video of a Saturn V rocket engine test to life with shocking power — but do not anticipate it to fill a 18′x24′ great room with vaulted ceilings to any great impact its smaller driver just will not be in a position to move sufficient air. This sub requires the proper space to genuinely shine, but it’s not tough to mate it to a range of smaller sound systems. The normal pairing would be to use the Impact Mini with a program of small satellite speakers in a den or modest living space.
The other spot exactly where the Influence Mini falls short of the pricier MiniVee is in its musicality. The Influence Mini is refreshingly low in distortion till it is obscenely overdriven, but brief, staccato sounds in rapid succession like the speedy double-kick drum on heavy metal tracks can begin to run together noticeably much more than they do when played back via a sealed-box subwoofer like the MiniVee. The Impact Mini’s overall performance with most music is fairly satisfying, nevertheless, and I have had no qualms about pairing it with the NuForce Icon-1 and S-1 program that I use at my Computer.
What makes the Impact Mini some thing genuinely particular is that it outperforms a lot of of the 10″ subwoofers I have heard, while sounding superior and carrying out it all in an enclosure that’s half their size. None of my complaints are sufficient to change the fact that the Influence Mini is an outstanding small performer for its price tag, and if you can’t afford the MiniVee or Velodyne’s even a lot more high-priced Optimum-8, the Effect Mini is a shoo-in. With the Effect Mini, Velodyne has translated their mastery of the tiny, potent subwoofer product category into an eminently practical, reasonably priced package.

I purchased this to boost the sound of the ceiling speakers in my 3 season room. I wanted one thing tiny that would fit beneath a table or really like seat so my alternatives were restricted.
I first attempted the Yamaha FSW-050. The size was perfect but the enjoy affair ended there. It was quite boxy sounding and had no adjustable crossover. I could not get it sounding to my liking so I made the decision to return it and purchase the Velodyne Effect-Mini. Having a big 15″ Velodyne that I love in my home theater, I hoped the Velodyne would impress and it would undoubtedly be much superior than the Yamaha. I had no idea how considerably far superior even though and frankly, I was not anticipating too a lot simply because how a lot bass can you get from a 6.5″ driver, proper?. All I can say is WOW! This tiny sub is not low cost but it is really amazing for its size and I am glad I spent the extra cash!
The influence-Mini has a 180W RMS (300W Peak), Class D amplifier coupled with a 6.5″ aluminum driver and 8″ passive radiator. This grants this sub to generate amazingly low, tight bass from such a modest box. I have it hooked up by way of the line level inputs to the subwoofer output of a Yamaha CRX-330BL CD Receiver. Once tip I will give everyone getting this sub is to purchase an RCA Y adapter (1 RCA female to 2 RCA male). If you hook it up to the LFE output of a receiver without a Y adapter, you will not get a lot of output. Adding the Y adapter will enhance the output of the sub drastically. The sub also has speaker level inputs, a reverse phase switch, volume and variable crossover. The sub detects when there is a signal and turns on automatically. It turns off automatically if no signal is detected right after eight minutes. Because the sub turns on and off automatically when it detects a signal input is another reason to use a Y adapter. Without it, the sub may not turn on when you are listening to music softly. I can’t tell you how much I enjoy this sub. It fully fills my 12′ x 20′ room with smooth, deep bass.
If you want Really low bass, nothing at all beats a massive sub but if space is limited, this is the ideal tiny sub I have ever heard. It rivals the efficiency of many 8″, 10″ or even 12″ subs.

Velodyne ImpactMini Powered Subwoofer – Little (Black)
My Infinity BU-80 finally died. I had it operating with my M-Audio BX5a’s (love those tiny guys)! Costco had the Power 8HG for . Tested it this morning – clipped on almost everything. It was quite excellent with mid level music (jazz, classical and the like) if you kept the volume low to mid. I listen to every thing and record my own songs. That massive open port seems to cause some problems and some reviews mentioned the box construction is in question. For the price tag, I really tried to make it function but for every single music kind I had to continually modify the volume and settings. The Impact Mini is smaller, has no open port and sounds amazing! I paid twice as considerably for it but it sounds so considerably better! The bass is tight and it handled the songs and volumes that induced the 8HG to clip. Btw, the warranty on it is super as is the overall specifications. My personal personal play back method is when again total!
